You’ve had your fun. Now scoot on over and let F all and W inter into the picture.

Yes to fall, not to winter. Mainly just because I can’t afford another set of winter tires, and my convertible isn’t RWD.

I’ve been thinking about coming down sometime for a drive and/or starting to try to organize the PNW Beater Meet
![]() 07/26/2018 at 13:23 |

But I don’t have a beater! The closest thing we have is my wife’s car, and I don’t think she’d appreciate it if I borrowed it for a beater meet. ;)

Drive backwards ;)

Please. I'm ready for another meet up. Seems like we no longer have to worry about rain/snow anywhere so pretty much anywhere is open to us

You need this: https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/d/slant-6/6653958849.html
A) Dodge Rams rock, B) The ad only says “Slant 6, beat up body”
That’s literally all you need for a great story.
Really though, this is going to be pretty informal, I think it will mostly be a chance for all of us to hang again.

You don’t like 90+F where nobody has AC?
![]() 07/26/2018 at 13:28 |

I know people around the country have it way worse than us but seriously can we get some cooling or even just a couple days of good ol PNW rain!?!?!
![]() 07/26/2018 at 13:31 |

There are reasons I was insistent that whatever house we got had to have A/C or that we had enough left over to retrofit it.

I love the nights.
The rest.... Not so much

I’m just waiting for forest fire smoke season to start. We are getting some thunder storms this week, I’m betting on some lightening starts.
My favorite time of the year is September and October.
The
weather is nice and I can go play in the woods and not have to worry about getting shot at like during
hunting season.

We’ll have some warm nights this weekend, lows maybe into the mid 60s.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 13:54 |

Id prefer if those were highs

I grew up with anything above 80 as a brief event, usually occuring in late August or early September. The last near decade it has become t he outright norm.

We picked up one of those little rolling droid units last year and it helps but struggles when it’s 90+ outside.

Wait about 10 weeks, we’ll be there.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 14:09 |

Or I could buy the answer. Someday
![]() 07/26/2018 at 14:36 |

The house we bought was previously owned by a couple from Texas. So central air and in ground sprinklers. Yeah, this heat sucks.

Griot's caffeine and gasoline anybody?
![]() 07/26/2018 at 14:39 |

Tacoma? Ehhh, it would be impossible for me to bring my Dodge. I was thinking about somewhere halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, BC away from the interstate.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 14:40 |

I don't have a beater fortunately/unfortunately.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 14:42 |

I’ve been thinking a cruise and BBQ at Diablo Lake (high on SR20), Fidalgo Island, or Whidbey Island. Somewhere cooler.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 14:42 |

Still come! I’m calling this a beater meet, but really it will just be a chance for us all to hang out again. I do want to pick a place where I can bring my D100 and others feel safe bringing their projects.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 14:43 |

Just remembered we're spending a couple of weeks on the orcas island in August. Gotta plan for this heat.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 14:45 |

We open our house up and have fans going like crazy to get our house down to whatever the night low is, then we close everything up every morning and leave the A/C on to keep it from getting unbearable.
I’m glad it at least cools off at night...

We don’t really get winter unless you’re high enough. It’s just a continuous 9-10 months of rain and cool weather punctuated by a snowstorm and/or freezing that causes the city to grind to a halt.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 14:50 |
|
Why are sprinkler systems rare here? I mean, we suffer these 2-3 months of hot weather a year where almost everything will die if you don’t water it...
![]() 07/26/2018 at 15:06 |

I li ve in Olympia which gets a bit more rain than Seattle. I don’t think they always made sense, but seem to now.

Counterpoint: I love this dry heat and spending hours at the beach covered in sunscreen.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 15:28 |

Next week is better
![]() 07/26/2018 at 15:40 |

That’d be good too! I basically want to stay off busy roads and highways. My top cruising speed is like 80km/h
![]() 07/26/2018 at 15:55 |
|
I’ll take all 4 seasons over that’s
![]() 07/26/2018 at 16:05 |

How dare you?! I haven’t taken one freaking vacation day yet to even enjoy the glorious, hot, humid weather.
No cold air on these lips until they get sunburned at least once standing outside a crappy beach bar, drinking too many cold “whatever-the-happy-hour-crappy-beer-is”!
![]() 07/26/2018 at 16:06 |
|
It’s been 100+ here for at least a week. I leave around 5 in the morning and it’s been 80+ then. I’ll skip winter, but I’d kill for some temps in the 60s-70s.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 16:47 |

I understand. I just wish the average person moving here understood that. Just because it was warm, clear, and sunny during the week or two you were here in July or August doesn’t mean it’s normally like this. Most people can’t handle 9-10 months of rain. Even the locals can’t, as about half the population goes somewhere warm like Hawaii or Mexico to dry out/warm up.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 17:43 |

No thanks. I hate winter. So much. Let’s trade climates.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 20:09 |

yep - had enough of this stuff. E ven the basement is too hot now...
![]() 07/26/2018 at 21:40 |

I really like the BBQ idea.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 21:42 |

On the flip side, when we do get snow the city shuts down and you can live out your dreams of hooning through downtown at midnight with no one around.
Also, mountains are plentiful so there's always tons of good snow within a 20 minute drive!
![]() 07/26/2018 at 21:43 |
|
I need to try that. What's the housing market like in the part of Mexico where I don't have to worry about being kidnapped
![]() 07/26/2018 at 21:46 |
|
I’m (pleasantly) surprised I haven’t heard of any major fires yet east of the Cascades. Hopefully we get a year with minimal f ires.
Don’t forget your PPE!
![]() 07/26/2018 at 21:46 |

Where are these beach bars. How do I get in. Give me your connections!
![]() 07/26/2018 at 21:48 |

Clearly the solution is to spend more time at the beach. Or go explore lakes in the mountain...
![]() 07/26/2018 at 21:48 |

Deal, but you keep the road salt.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 21:48 |

I’ve got fans set up in my bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 21:51 |

No way, that’s the worst part.
![]() 07/26/2018 at 22:22 |

I think they call that Texas

For an American? I’d never buy/buy into anything anywhere down there because you can’t technically buy anything unless you’re a Mexican. The laws are designed to protect the locals from foreigners buying up all their property/housing. The best you can do is a contract with a local for some property.
If you want to deal with hard sells every vacation, everyone is selling timeshares anywhere even slightly desirable down there.
We go to the part that is supposedly super dangerous, but I’m also e l loco pinche gabacho y mi espanol es muy mal.
